Ian grew up in Menasha WI before moving to Oshkosh to pursue a Biology degree at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. His first year there, an elective Mycology class sparked his interest in fermentation, beginning in kimchi and wine, and eventually venturing into beer. With the creative background of the culinary arts and a biology degree in tow, his early twenties were spent developing the Fifth Ward business and at the age of 25 became a small business owner. When not at the Oshkosh brewery he enjoys discovering and enjoying new music, beer, and friends.
